Holistic Health and Economic Leadership: Empowering Women in Business

Delano CA Department of Human Services

In today’s competitive world, women in business face unique challenges. Balancing work, health, and leadership roles can often feel overwhelming. But, the connection between holistic health and economic leadership is more powerful than most people realize. When women focus on their health, it doesn’t just affect their personal lives—it transforms their business leadership and empowers their teams.

Empowering Women Through Holistic Health

Holistic health isn’t just about eating well or exercising; it’s about achieving balance in every area of life—mind, body, and spirit. For women in business, this balance is essential. When you take control of your health, you increase your ability to lead, make better decisions, and inspire others to do the same.

By fostering a workplace environment that supports holistic health, women leaders can:

  • Encourage healthier habits among team members,
  • Reduce stress and burnout,
  • Promote a culture of well-being that enhances productivity,

Team-Building for Better Health in the Workplace

At the Department of Human Services, I had the privilege of working with staff members sponsored by the Blue Zones Project Bakersfield. This workshop focused on improving health in the workplace, which also transfers to staying healthy at home. This workshop encouraged:

  • Better health practices,
  • Reading labels and comparing products,
  • Increased energy levels,
  • Improved attendance.

Through demonstrations of healthy options and discussions of ingredient benefits, employees learned how small, mindful changes dramatically impact their lives—personally and professionally.

The Impact of Workplace Health on Attendance and Energy

One key finding from this experience was the direct correlation between health practices and workplace attendance. Healthier employees are likelier to show up, be engaged, and contribute their best efforts.

Here’s how holistic health improves business performance:

  • Increased energy: Healthy eating and regular movement boost energy levels, which enhances productivity and creativity.
  • Mental clarity: A balanced diet rich in whole foods sharpens focus and decision-making, which is critical for success in any business environment.
  • Weight management and overall wellness: Employees who feel physically well are more confident and less distracted by health concerns.

Food Demonstration: Health Benefits of Ingredients

During the workshop, we provided food demonstrations to educate the team on the health benefits of various ingredients. For example:

  • Leafy greens for detoxification and mental clarity
  • FATTY fish like salmon to support brain health and reduce inflammation
  • Whole grains to stabilize blood sugar, maintaining consistent energy throughout the day
  • SEEDS and nuts for healthy fats that improve cognitive performance

Employees were amazed at how these simple, accessible foods fuel their bodies and their work performance.

Leadership Through Health

As women continue to lead in the business world, we must recognize that our health plays a vital role in how we show up as leaders. By encouraging team-building efforts around health and well-being, we empower ourselves and those around us. The impact of this approach at the Department of Human Services was clear—employees were more engaged, energized, and mentally sharp, all of which contributed to a more productive and cohesive work environment.

Conclusion: A Holistic Approach to Business Success

Economic leadership is not just about financial knowledge; it’s about caring for the whole person. For women in business, this means leading from a place of balance, wellness, and empowerment. Integrating holistic health practices into the workplace can improve our teams’ well-being and enhance business success through increased productivity, better attendance, and sharper mental clarity.

Let’s continue this conversation and make holistic health a cornerstone of economic leadership and empowerment for women.
