Ask Charmene' s high school friends to describe her and they use words like: admired, cool, kind, attractive, and charming.
In college she was one of five girls known as "The Sweet Five". Charmene was a pre-med major and described as studious, intelligent, and a Maverick; a real leader, one who cares.
Charmene grew up in NY and at the age of 16 she was a foreign exchange student to Norway and also received a Good Citizen's award.
Her college years took her from NY to Boston, Iowa, Minnesota, Texas, and she finally landed in California where she resides now.
While teaching in La Canada, CA Charmene started the Mama Vega Salsa company. She was featured on the Food Network and had over 100 stores selling her salsa throughout northern CA, southern CA, and Colorado.
Creating a bistro and restaurant to serve healthy foods at a golf course, for Veterans and Kaiser Permanente for patients, visitors, and staff provided additional experiences for tailoring personalized nutritional needs.
A proud member on the committee in Bakersfield, CA that is working to help restaurants and grocery stores become Blue Zone approved by following specific guidelines.
Because of the efforts Mama Vega has been doing to assist with nutrition for the children in Kenya, Africa, the school has been renamed and registered with the African government as Mama Vega Neema Educational Center.
